Greetings from Seattle:
Final preparations are underway for the 19th Annual Summer Political
Methodology Meetings. A preliminary program for the meeting is posted at the
conference Web site (www.csss.washington.edu/polmeth). The purpose of this
quick note is to encourage you to:
- Confirm you conference participation via the Web form at
http://web.polmeth.ufl.edu/confirm2002.html
- Faculty must register immediately for the conference by sending your $150
registration fee to
Janet M. Box-Steffensmeier
1492 Eastmeadow
Columbus, OH 43235
jboxstef+@osu.edu
Make checks out to APSA "Organized Section on Political Methodology".
- If you have previously requested a hotel, you need to make your
reservations quickly. Hotel accommodations are at your own cost. We have
contracted with two excellent, close hotels for blocs of rooms. The deadline
for reserving these rooms is end of business on June 10, 2002. If you do not
reserve on of these rooms, you will need to find your own
accommodations. Historically, it has been difficult to find accommodations in
Seattle in July, especially at rates as low as these. The two options are:
- The Watertown Hotel, 4242 Roosevelt, a new hotel 3 blocks from the
University, in the UDistrict, has held a bloc of 15 rooms at $119. This
includes a continental breakfast. All rooms are non-smoking. Mention the
Political Methodology Meetings when reserving your room. The Web site is
http://www.watertownseattle.com.
You may call 206.632.5055 (from 9am to 5pm, PST this week) for reservations;
after the hotel opens next week, please call their direct number:
206.826.4242. There is free, underground parking at the hotel.
- The Silvercloud Inn, University Village, 5036 25th Avenue NE, Seattle,
WA, 98105 also has a bloc of 15 rooms at $99. This includes a continental
breakfast. This hotel is located near the university, about three blocks
away, near the University Village shopping mall. The hotel has free parking
and a free shuttle to the University (and other locations). The Web site is
http://www.scinns.com/universi.htm.
You may make reservations by calling 1.800.205.6940. Mention the
Political Methodology Meetings or POLMETH when reserving your room.
- If you have requested accommodations in Haggett Hall-a dormitory
overlooking Lake Washington, you need to send to us a confirmation email
(polmeth@stat.washington.edu). Accommodations during the conference (Wednesday,
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday), including meals, will be paid by University of
Washington. If you have an early arrival or late departure, you will need to
pay for this directly to CSSS prior to check-in (A check to CSSS-University of
Washington, should be sent to Erin de la Mare, CSSS, Box 354320, Padelford
Hall, C 14, University of Washington, Seattle, WA 98195-4320). Early/Late
departure rates, per night (no meals) are $27 for a double and $41.50 for a
single room. If you requested a single room, you will also have to pay the
additional $58 for the Wednesday-Friday period. Please note, that the supply
of single rooms is limited; and roommate requests will be honored where
possible. By June 10th, you need to send a confirmation email to us at
polmeth@stat.washington.edu. Early and late arrivals will not be available
except though advance arrangements; you will not be able to request this once
you arrive in Seattle. The confirmation email must have the following
information. Just clip it and ship it.
THIS IS FOR ATTENDEES WHO ARE STAYING IN THE DORM ONLY!

Web site.
- These deadlines are real. Both blocs of hotel rooms will disappear on the
10th of June. We also have to get a list of names to the dormitory
administrators by June 10th. Sorry for the short notice.
- Bookmark the conference Web
site. We will be posting a variety of information about the conference and

know by email to polmeth@stat.washington.edu.
